Dr. Laurent Bonnefoy holds a PhD in International Relations and has worked on Islamist movements and contemporary religious identities in the Arabian Peninsula. Currently he is a CNRS Research Fellow at the Centre de recherché internationals (CERI/Sciences PO) in Paris and is Deputy Principal Investigator of the WAFAW/ERC project. He has also served in Palestine, as head of Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO).

He is the author of Salafism in Yemen: Transnationalism and Religious Identity (Hurst/Columbia University Press, 2012). Dr. Bonnefoy has co edited various volumes on Yemeni politics, violence and radicalism in Arabia Peninsula and youth and leisure in the Arab world.
