Francis Robinson is Sultan of Oman Fellow, Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, and Visiting Professor in the History of the Islamic World, University of Oxford, as well as Professor of the History of South Asia, Royal Holloway, University of London. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, MA, PhD (1970) and Prize Fellow (1969-73). He has also served as Senior Vice-Principal (1997-2004), at the Royal Holloway, University of London, and as Visiting Professor, University of Washington, Seattle. Former  President of the Royal Asiatic Society and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts , he was awarded the Iqbal Centenary Medal, Pakistan in 1978 and the Shaikh Yaki Zamani Medal, Iqbal Academy, UK, in 2008. In 2006 he was appointed CBE for contributions to Higher Education and the History of Islam. He has over 33 publications including books and articles. His most recent publications include “Islam, South Asia and the West” (2007), “The Mughals and the Islamic Dynasties of India, Iran and Central Asia, 1206-1925 “(2007), and “Islam in the Age of Western Domination “(2009).
