Guest Speaker and Discussants
Dr. Afia Zia is a feminist scholar and activist who has authored 2 books, edited several, and published
over a dozen peer reviewed essays in international journals. She has taught at the University of Toronto
and Habib University. She is an active member of Women’s Action Forum, Karachi.

Ms. Neelam Hussain is the founder member of Simorgh Women's Resource and Publication Centre
where she works as an editor, writer and project coordinator. She is also a member of Women’s Action
Forum (WAF), Asian Women’s Human Rights Council, and South Asia Hub Pathways to Women’s
Empowerment Research Consortium. She read English Literature at the Universities of Punjab, Leeds
and Sussex, and taught English at Kinnaird College, Lahore for twenty two years.
Ms. Sarah Suhail is a feminist activist and lawyer, qualified to the High Court and member of the Punjab
Bar Council. She is pursuing her PhD at the University of Arizona in Women and Gender Studies,
researching about the lives and aspirations of women in unfree labor conditions such as brick kiln labor
and debt bondage. Currently she is a researcher at the Information Technology University.
