Dr. Daniel Brown holds PhD in Islamic Studies from University of Chicago, Illinois. He is the Winner of the University of Chicago’s 1993-94 Marc Galler Prize, awarded for dissertations judged the most distinguished contributions to scholarship in any given year. Since 2011, he is the Director of Institute for the Study of Religion in the Middle East.

Dr. Brown’s research and publication include two Monographs “A New Introduction to Islam” and “Rethinking Tradition in Modern Islamic Thought”. He has also written several articles, few of which are “Hasan al-Banna, the Art of Death, and Contemporary Ideologies of Martyrdom”, “Clash of Cultures or Clash of Theologies?”, “Sunna” and “Martyrdom” in Encyclopedia of Islam.
