CAMP’s report ‘Understanding the Informal Justice System’ authored by Mr. Naveed Shinwari explores the informal conflict resolution systems including the panchayat, faislo, Baloch Jirga, extended family, mohalla and biradari. It is a follow on to earlier research on the Pukhtun Jirga and together present the status, perceptions and participation of citizens as well as a comparative standing of informal justice systems vis-a-vis the formal system across Pakistan. It also explores the issues of human rights standards and treatment of women to discuss reforms both in the formal and informal systems while raising the question of possible integration.
