Performing Arts Can Play a Crucial Role in Eradicating Patriarchal Violence

INTRODUCTION

Patriarchal violence, a pervasive issue in society, revolves around the exertion of power and control by men over women and marginalized genders. This practice involves various forms of abuse like physical, sexual, emotional, and also economic coercion. Entrenched structurally and ideologically, ‘patriarchal violence’ is supported by societal institutions like religious and state laws. Such practices perpetuate gender inequality, and disparities in
employment, political participation, and education, whilst normalizing violence against women. The prevalence of patriarchal violence has normalized its existence, under- scoring the importance of acknowledging its complexity and impact.
