Biography

Dr Abdullah Khoso is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Public Policy and Governance,
Forman Christian College University, Lahore. He has earned a PhD in Sociology and Cultural
Studies from the University of Malaya, Malaysia. For PhD research, Dr Khoso focused on
Pakistani migrant workers’ social practices in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and explored the
relationship between migrant workers’ agency and social structures. He argued that in the
migration context, structures predominate migrant workers’ agency.
During and after PhD, Dr Khoso taught various courses at the Faculty of Arts and Social
Sciences, University of Malaya. He also worked as a research assistant with the same university
for a research project titled “The socioeconomic impact of seaweed product on seaweed-
producing coastal communities in Malaysia.”
He has MSc in Anthropology from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad. His thesis focused on
Manchar lake’s fishing communities’ survival strategies due to excessive salinity in the lake and
lack of sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Dr Khoso has also taught at the International Islamic University, Islamabad and in different
capacities worked with Save the Children International, Population Council, PILER, Pakistan
Fisherfolk Forum, NRSP and the Department of Anthropology, QAU, Islamabad.
Dr Khoso has been writing the Hari Welfare Association's flagship report on the State of
Peasants' Rights in Sindh (please see the most recent report here: https://hariwelfare.org/wp-
content/uploads/2021/09/Annual-Report-on-The-State-of-Peasants-Rights-in-Sindh-2020.pdf )
that primarily focuses on bonded labour in the agriculture sector.
Dr Khoso had helped the Ministry of Human Rights (MoHRs) Pakistan to draft Pakistan’s fifth
periodic report submitted to the CRC. In 2011, he delivered a keynote speech on Children of
Incarcerated parents (please see https://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/CRC/Pages/DGDPresentations.aspx ) in Geneva.
